FAQ

Customs Clearance Questions

What documents do I need to export goods from Nigeria?

Common requirements: Commercial Invoice, Packing List, CCVO, Airway Bill or Bill of Lading. Additional certificates depend on your cargo โ€” phytosanitary certificate for agricultural goods, NAFDAC for food/cosmetics, SON for regulated manufactured goods. Our team provides a complete checklist tailored to your specific cargo.

How long does customs clearance take?

For air freight at MMIA with complete documentation, clearance is typically completed within 24โ€“48 hours. Sea port clearance at Apapa or Tin Can takes 3โ€“7 business days. Delays occur when documentation is incomplete or goods are selected for physical examination, which adds 1โ€“3 days.

What is NESS and who pays it?

NESS (Nigerian Export Supervision Scheme) is a levy charged on all Nigerian exports, calculated as a percentage of the FOB value of the cargo. It is the exporter's responsibility. We calculate this upfront and include it in your customs cost estimate.

What happens if my goods are selected for physical examination?

Physical examination (PE) is a routine customs procedure. Our clearing agent will be present for the examination, ensure only the declared goods are inspected, and resolve any queries with customs officers directly. We handle the entire process without you needing to visit the port.

Can you handle clearance for imported goods into Nigeria?

Yes. We manage full import clearance for goods arriving at MMIA, Apapa, and Tin Can Island including Form M, PAAR assessment, duty payment, examination coordination, and cargo release to your delivery address.
