Which Sea Freight Option Is Right for You?

BEST FOR LARGE VOLUMES

Full Container Load (FCL)

You rent the entire container exclusively for your cargo. The container ships directly without waiting for other shipments to be consolidated.

  • More cost-effective per cubic metre for large shipments
  • Faster port clearance — your container is released directly
  • Lowest damage risk — no handling alongside other cargo
  • Available in 20ft and 40ft standard containers
BEST FOR SMALL VOLUMES

Less than Container Load (LCL)

Your cargo shares a container with other shipments going to the same destination. You only pay for the space your goods occupy.

  • Significantly lower cost for shipments under 15 CBM
  • Ideal for businesses testing new export markets
  • Regular weekly and bi-weekly departures to major ports
  • No minimum volume requirement

FAQ

Sea Freight Questions Answered

How long does ocean freight from Lagos take?

Transit times depend on the destination. UK and Europe: 14–21 days. US East Coast: 20–28 days. China and Asia: 25–35 days. South Africa: 7–14 days. These are vessel transit times and exclude inland collection and port processing.

What is the difference between Apapa and Tin Can Island port?

Both ports are in Lagos. Apapa Port (Lagos Port Complex) is the older, larger port and handles more general cargo. Tin Can Island Port handles significant container volumes and is often preferred for containerised exports. We work with both and will recommend the best option based on your cargo and schedule.

What is the minimum volume for LCL sea freight?

There is no strict minimum for LCL. We can consolidate shipments from as small as 0.5 cubic metres (CBM). For shipments above 15–18 CBM, FCL may become more cost-effective — our team will advise.

Can I track my ocean freight shipment?

Yes. Once your container is loaded and the Bill of Lading is issued, you receive a booking reference and container number that allows real-time tracking on the shipping line's website. We also provide proactive status updates at key milestones.
